Osmena Peak in Brgy. Mantalongon Dalaguete Cebu, it was named as the Summer Capital of Cebu. Some people called also it as “Little Baguio” and “Vegetable Basket”. It is one of the most famous attraction for most trekkers in Cebu because it is the highest mountain peak in Cebu. The view from the peak is a breathtaking view of Badian town and the island of Negros.
How to get there:
There are buses that will take you directly to Mantalongon Market where the drop-off going to Omena Peak. These buses have their own terminal near the Carbon market in Cebu City. Specifically in Caltex Gasoline station near Carbon market (When you’re in Carbon market, you can ask there where is the Caltex Gasoline station. There is only one gasoline station along Magallanes st.). The bus will leave in Cebu City as early as 7AM with 2hrs interval or depending on when the bus is fully loaded. The fare from Cebu to Mantalongon is around Php 135.00 and travel time is approximately 3 hours.
Once arrived in Mantalongon you can take an early lunch then take a short break or buy anything you need to bring to the mountain before start the long trek. The trek from Mantalongon Market to the peak is approximately 2 hours for a normal pace trek. It is a good cardio exercise and will give you a good reward upon reaching the peak. For nature lover and photographers love this because of this picturesque views of the mountain ranges and vegetable farms along the way to the peak.
Another option going to Mantalongon Dalaguete is from the Cebu South Bus terminal where you can take a bus bound to Oslob. Then tell the collector to drop you off at the Dalaguete intersection. This intersection is very popular among all the bus companies operating the in the southern part of Cebu. From there, take a motorcycle or “habal-habal” going to Mantolongon market or directly to the foot of Osmena Peak. The fare from Cebu South Bus Terminal to Dalaguete intersection is approximately Php 100.00. Then for the motorcycle or “habal-habal” is is also Php 100.00 one way. If staying for a short period of time like you just have to have photoshoot you can arrange the habal-habal driver to wait for a period of time with an additional fee. Depending on your negotiation skills and another Php 100.00 for going down to Dalaguete intersection.
Camping at the Peak
It is more fun camping in Osmena peak. Most trekkers stay at the peak overnight to unwind and experience the beauty of nature. It is also the best time to build strong relationship among friends. There are now more camping site around the peak. Just look for a clean and flat surface where you feel comfortable and setup you camping tents. After setting up the camping tents, we start preparing the dinner. Others can do whatever they want to do like taking great photographs of the sunsets. Others can just stay at the peak and reminiscing the nature with the cool breeze touches your body.
Next morning, prepare breakfast and take another photo session for the sunrise. Then break camp to prepare going back home or some trekkers will traverse to Kawasan Falls.
