Do you wanna go beach bumming? Please come visit San Remigio in Cebu. Or Are you going to visit Bantayan Island? Please do drop by at the San Remigio and visit their famous and widest shoreline. It is also considered as the longest shoreline in the whole province of Cebu. This is where they get the sign “Lapyahan sa San Remigio”.
San Remigio has the longest shoreline in province of Cebu. It is not just an ordinary shoreline, it is a white sand beach. This place is public and there is no entrance fee. You can bring food and drinks on the beach with your picnic mat.
You can reach this place easily from the national highway. If you are riding with a bus from Cebu City, you can drop-off at the San Remigio church. All buses coming from Cebu City that has a sign of Hagnaya or Bantayan Island will surely pass this church. Then a 3-5 mins walk at the back of the church then you see that famous sign “Lapyahan sa San Remigio”.
Lapyahan sa San Remigio
San Remigio is known of its wide shoreline or locally known as lapyahan. Every year they celebrate the “Lapyahan sa San Remigio” festival and in honor of their patron saint San Juan Nepomuceno.It is celebrated every 15th or 16th of May. This is also in honour of their greatest and bountiful marine life. Fishing is their living and it is also their main source of income.
When in low tide they go on the shore and get some seashells and sea cucumber. Sometimes, fishermens go on diving to get sea urchins. It is very famous in San Remigio especially in seaside barangays.
San Remigio is now one of the diving destination in the province of Cebu. Year after year, they discover new diving spots in the area. Each diving spots has different species compared to the other.
Ferry Hub to Bantayan Island
San Remigio is also the lone ferry hub going to the famous Bantayan Island. Hagnaya Port is the only port in San Remigio that offers hourly trip to Bantayan Island. So, making a side trip to Lapyahan sa San Remigio is a good side trip. You need to get the first bus trip from Cebu City.
